FAQ’s

General Pediatric Dentistry

When should I bring my child for their first dental visit?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children see a dentist by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth coming in.

Why should my child see a pediatric dentist instead of a general dentist?

Pediatric dentists are specially trained to care for the unique dental needs of infants, children, and teens—including those with special needs. We create a fun, gentle, and positive experience to build healthy dental habits early.

How often should my child see the dentist?

Most children should visit the dentist every six months for a check-up and cleaning, unless advised otherwise.

Frenectomy

Lip and Tongue Tie Treatment

What are tongue and lip ties?

Tongue and lip ties occur when the tissue connecting the tongue or lip to the mouth is too tight or restrictive, potentially affecting feeding, speech, and oral development.

How do I know if my baby has a tongue or lip tie?

Signs can include difficulty breastfeeding, poor latch, gassiness, reflux symptoms, prolonged feedings, or clicking sounds while nursing. Dr. Ashlee performs thorough evaluations to determine if treatment is needed.

What is a frenectomy?

A frenectomy is a quick, precise procedure that releases the tight tissue under the tongue or lip using a laser for minimal discomfort and faster healing.

Is the laser frenectomy safe for my baby?

Yes, our CO₂ laser technology is extremely safe and effective. It allows for a gentle release, less bleeding, and increased healing time.

Will my baby need follow-up care after the frenectomy?

Yes. After-care includes specific stretches to prevent tissue reattachment and may involve coordination with lactation consultants, bodyworkers, or myofunctional therapists to support full recovery.

Feeding & Development

Can a tongue tie cause trouble breastfeeding and latching?

Yes. A tongue tie can interfere with your baby’s ability to latch, causing pain for the mother and ineffective feeding for the baby. It can also affect the ability to properly latch to a bottle or pacifier.

Will my baby need other therapies after a frenectomy?

In some cases, additional support from lactation consultants, speech or myofunctional therapists, or bodywork providers like chiropractors or physical therapists can enhance results.

What are the benefits of treating tongue or lip ties early?

Early treatment can improve feeding, reduce maternal discomfort, and support proper speech and oral development as your child grows.
